What we are is a group of riders here in New Hampshire and New England that enjoy riding the Honda VTX. Most of us started out as members of the VTX Owners Association message board (VTXOA.com) and were limited to talking about our love of this great bike with people that shared our love. The group is diverse and spread out all over New Hampshire. Most of us had never met except through the message board. On June 1st of 2008 that all changed. Our first group ride was a great success and we all finally got to meet each other in person and do what we love.....RIDE. A great turnout of 25 VTX's on our debut group ride yielded a lot of laughs and some great new friendships.

The group has since gotten larger with new friends coming from Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and Conneticut. Our anniversary ride of our first group ride this year had a 40 bike turnout. We are not limited by the type of bike we ride. All that love to ride are welcome to join us. Members of the group bring friends along for rides all the time. We welcome anyone who loves to ride to come along.

That being said......Welcome to NH VTX Riders Dot Com. Hopefully you will be informed of local happenings, be it our next ride, a tech day, or one of our famous "Meetings of the Mindless" get togethers where we plan our next seasons rides and have a few laughs. Join us for the fun.

It's Done!  (from the NHMRO web site)
February 17, 2010

We just learned
that
HB 1162 Motorcycle Protective
Head Gear
is GONE!!!
Great work everyone!!!  This could not
have been done with out all of your
efforts and YOUR voice!
Just remember - it could come back next
year (again).

Here's an email from Candy Alexander at the NHMRO.  Here's a little news about the vote on the helmet law.
Hello Everyone!
Well, it's done! We just learned that HB 1162 (Helmets) is GONE! Great
work everyone!!! This could not have been done with out all of your efforts and YOUR voice!
So, now our challenge is NOT to have it come back! Let's show them that we can ride and be RESPEFTFUL to other around us.
If we don't - we'll be back to do this all over again!
Visit our website to see a message from our Legislative Directors, and
remember that there is still al LOT of work to be done and we need your
help!
See you at the next meeting in March!
On behalf of the NHMRO Board,
Ride Safe!

One down, One to go!  (from the NHMRO web site)
February 10, 2010
We have received word from Concord that HB 1261/Noise was pulled from the consent calendar and was put to the
House floor for a vote. The vote was 267 to 28 in opposition of the bill.  The other bill HB 1162 has not yet been
voted upon and we can expect that to occur when the House is in session, next Wednesday.  If you haven't done
so... you know the drill by now -  contact
your rep's to be sure that they vote
NO  on 1162 when it goes to vote on the "floor".

Here's an email from Candy Alexander at the NHMRO. The noise bill has been soundly defeated but we'll have to sweat it out on the helmet law until next week.

- DON'T Forget - Meeting at Deerhead this SUNDAY where we will be going over this and answer any questions you have!
Until then,

Wednesday, February 3, 2010        NH legislative committee rejects motorcycle bills

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — A bill requiring New Hampshire motorcyclists to wear helmets has died in a legislative committee.

The Portsmouth Herald reported on its Web site Tuesday that the bill, and another requiring motorcycles made after 1982 to have noise "emission systems labels," were dismissed in the House Transportation Committee after the panel deemed them "too inexpedient to legislate."

The House held a hearing on the legislation last week.

Both measures were proposed by state Rep. Judith Day of North Hampton. She tells the newspaper she's undecided whether she will seek re-election, but will propose the bills again if she returns to the Legislature.

Day says she also supports legislation allowing communities to craft their own motorcycle noise ordinances.

(A message from the NHMRO)

Now that the hearings for both bills are
behind us,
NHMRO's would like to
remind you that there are a few things
left to do.

The Transportation Committee is
expected to consider the bills
disposition in executive session within
the couple of weeks and will either
render an "out to pass" or an
"inexpedient to legislate" (ITL) before
<--------- Dismissed in Committee as ITL
the bill goes to the full House for a vote.  <--------- Still goes to full house for vote

It is important that you now contact                <---------- Still need to contact your local Rep
your representatives (and not
necessarily the Transportation
Committee), to express you position on
these bills.

NHMRO Gives the NH VTX Riders a Certificate of Appreciation

New Hampshire Motorcyclist Rights Organization gives the NH VTX Riders a Certificate of Appreciation for becoming a sponsor of the Toys for Tots Run.

SPGrenier, TBones and Badone went to the NHMRO meeting in Hooksett on Sunday November 8th 2009 and were presented a certificate of Appreciation for our group becoming a sponsor at this past year's Toys for Tots Run. The Certificate is shown below. I printed copies and will bring them to our upcomming Meeting of the Mindless in December. If anyone would like to print one right away, they can click on the image below, open up the full size image and print it from there. Congratulations to all in the group for once again coming through and doing it with finesse.

I have recently added an Events Calendar to the site. It is very basic and really has not been populated since we are toward the end of this years riding season. Hopefully we will conduct a couple of our "Meetings of the Mindless" again this winter to get ideas for next years riding season. On our old calendar people were putting birthdays on the calendar. If people have an interest in having their birthdays on a calendar, I can set up another calendar. This calendar component is only manageable by the admin and items cannot be added by users. It integrates with Google Calendars and if you have a Google account you can add events from the calendar here to your own calendar. This calendar is a running experiment and may change in the future if I can find one that works better and is FREE. Seems there are a lot of companies trying to get rich off of simple components. So for now, there is a Calendar for Events and a Calendar for Birthdays. Anyone wanting a birthday or event added to the respective calendars should e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or PM me, CaptDanbo, on the VTXOA board.

I have also added a weather link in the top menu bar and in the Main Menu. It will post 7 day forecasts for 3 locations covering New Hampshire. Locations are Manchester for southern NH, Laconia for the lakes region and Berlin for the north country. I will also include other cities as necessary depending on where our next group ride is. I added Burlington Vermont to the list since we are planning a Foliage ride on the 3rd and 4th of October.

NH-VTX.COM closing it's doors

For those who may not have noticed, the original NH VTX web site that was run by Btalon (Paul) at www.nh-vtx.com is no longer in operation. Because of other commitments and time constraints, he has decided to stop operation of the web site, gallery and mass e-mail. Paul worked very hard on that site and it was very informative with the goings on of the group as well as having a backup bulletin board for when the VTXOA would go down. The site was well run as was the gallery and it will surely be missed. Everyone knew that when something was going on, there was a mass e-mail sent out to everyone. Paul has set up a forwarding link at the old location that will for the time being re-route people to this site.

What's Next

Things will slowly become consolidated with this site. Anyone that was registered with the NH-VTX site & gallery is welcome to register on this site and gallery. Pictures from Paul's gallery have been given to me to add to this gallery. Plans will be to start uploading them with the newest ones first, followed by the older pictures. I started on that work this morning (Jan 29, 2010). I hope to take over the mass e-mail project as well and hope that I can do as well a job as Paul did with it. A lot of time and energy go into site developement as well as maintenance to keep it running at it's peak. So, I know how difficult it can be to manage a web site, job and family life. As he does with everything he takes on, Paul put 100% into his web site. Anyone with questions feel free to send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will do my best to answer them. For all the necommers.......enjoy the site.

What Happened to the Site

For those that might be interested in what happened to this web site, I figured I would fill you in. My hosting service made a critical error when I was cancelling a service I had with them for reselling web space. They cancelled my hosting account instead, thereby deleting every file and picture I had stored there. They were the files for this site, and pictures from the NH VTX Riders gallery as well as Elvie's personal gallery.

Patches, Decals & T-Shirts

10 inch patches are finally in.  Steve has a few extra T-shirts in case anyone is still looking for some. He has some assorted sizes and colors. Check with SPGrenier on the NH board of VTXOA if you need any.

Decals have been in for a while now and look great. Steve had 4 inch and 6 inch available at the time and also had special requests for 18 inch decals. The 6 inch decals are basically gone at this point and there are still plenty of 4 inch available. If there is a large interest in the 6 inch decals, I'm sure they will be available later. Again, Steve is the contact person for any of the decals. Thanks again to Steve for all his effort in making this happen. He really took the bull by the horns on this one.

Below is a list of what NH VTX Riders stuff Steve still has in stock:

Meeting of the Mindless

The third of 3 meetings slated for this winter has come and gone. Ken and Chris had graciously offered to host the third of these meetings and it was held on the 6th of  March at 6:00pm. A great time was had by all that attended. As usually we had plenty of food and beer (we all brought a little something) and we had our usual break in bull session before actually discussing rides for next season. Joe Shaw was ill and he his wife Sue didn't make it to this meeting. We still had lots of laughs which is always the case when our group gets together.  Doc Rick worked overtime on the internal wiring on his new handlebars and rode his bike to the meeting and impressed us all with his great work.

The focus of this meeting was pretty much to get some new ideas together for events that we discussed at the last meeting and to finalize a few others. Steve is definitely hosting our tech day in April. Sunday seemed to be a day that worked well for last years tech day, so we have scheduled it for Sunday, April 18, 2010. This gives people the opportunity to get bikes to Steve's house on Saturday, if they are planning valve adjustments. Steve mentioned ordering oil filters and exhaust gaskets for those needing them and still has plenty of gear oil on hand. Depending on what time all to work gets done, we usually try to get a short ride in afterward. New people can feel free to come over and meet some of the regulars and just have a good time. Always a good thing just to watch and learn.

The next "biggie" is the North Meets South Ride. Usually held on the last week of May or the first week of June, we picked the weekend of the 29th and 30th of May. The group decided to go with Saturday May 29th as the official day of the ride with Sunday, May 30th as a rain date. Mark your calendars now for this ride. The actual ride once the group meets at the Route 104 Diner (formerly Bobby's Girl) is still to be determined, but a possible route through part of Maine was discussed. There were concerns about traffic on this particular weekend, (Memorial Day weekend) but most traffic will be traveling either on Friday or on Monday. Most will be on the larger highways which we hope to avoid anyways. We also talked about the possibility of the event being moved entirely in the event of a complete weekend washout. This is after all our anniversary ride, so canceling completely was not an option. In the event that the scheduled June 29th and the scheduled rain date of the 30th get thrown under the bus because of severe weather, the ride will be moved to the summer, probably in August or September, which are very light with scheduled rides at the moment.

Americade was the next big ride we discussed. Plans are for 3 days in Lake George, NY for the event. A total of 4 rooms at the local Best Western have been booked for this ride and event. Three rooms have been filled with one more room being available for up to 3 individuals or 2 couples. The plan is to leave on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:00am in the morning. Since we will be on a timetable for a check in at 4:00pm at the event, we will be traveling major highways to the event. More than likely we will be working our way up 93 to 89 where we will take route 4 through the Queeche Gorge and through Vermont into New York. A map will be posted soon with a link.We will be meeting at CaptDanbo's house around 8:30- 9:00am and leaving promptly at 10:00am. A pit stop in White River Junction will be made for anyone that may want to join us for the ride from the North Country and possibly a fuel and food stop.

Doc Rick mentioned that he and some friends from Litchfield are planning on going to Laconia on Thursday, June 17th and have invited us to join them. This would be a great opportunity for some of us to finally meet Doc's wife. Most of us still don't believe he's married! There may also be individuals going to Laconia on other days, so stay in touch here and on the message board.

July is a month usually filled with local rides and events. We talked about the usual events we like to attend, like the Blessing of the Bikes, Sean Powers, Toys for Tots, etc. The Sean Powers ride and the Thunder in the Mountains ride are usually held in the 2nd half of July. As soon as we have definite dates, they will be posted here and on the calendar. We hope to get some theme parks in this summer and maybe an overnight camping trip. Possible rides were Fun Town in Saco Maine, 6 Flags or Canobie Lake. As plans get finalized they will be added to the calendar. It was brought to our attention that Rochester has a bike night similar to Lowell's bike night, but held on Thursdays. These bike nights may start around the 13th of May. More info as we get it. A definte time frame was set for July 24th and 25th for a camping ride. No idea as to where yet, but suggestions ranged from the North country, Vermont and even Maine. Stay tuned for more details.

As this was the 3rd of 3 meetings, no more meetings have been scheduled. Most ride and event details will now be handled through the VTXOA message board.  The possibility of a summer gathering and BBQ are still a possibility, as is an Ingy's ice cream ride and as we know more, so will you!

So, keep and eye here and on the VTXOA board for further developments. We also now have a presence on Facebook. If you have an account on Facebook, just go to the New Hampshire VTX Riders group and join.

Bobby's Girl Ride?? (Route 104 Diner) Aug.15, 2009

This ride review was written bt SPGrenier and taken with permission from the VTXOA Board.

Well, once again, when the group gets together we have a blast.
It looked like there was a little for everyone in this ride. Ken and John had a chance to come by Dunkins to say hello.

Doc joined us at Dunkins and led us up to the Irving before his sprint back to Mass for a family commitment. I had planned to jump in the front, but we were heading up to exit 23. Doc being well versed in bones and anatomy, reminded me that I would have run out of fingers and toes by exit 20 and that I probably would have got lost beyond that.
