Bobby's Girl Ride??
Bobby's Girl Ride?? (Route 104 Diner) Aug.15, 2009
This ride review was written bt SPGrenier and taken with permission from the VTXOA Board.
Well, once again, when the group gets together we have a blast.
It looked like there was a little for everyone in this ride. Ken and John had a chance to come by Dunkins to say hello.
Doc joined us at Dunkins and led us up to the Irving before his sprint back to Mass for a family commitment. I had planned to jump in the front, but we were heading up to exit 23. Doc being well versed in bones and anatomy, reminded me that I would have run out of fingers and toes by exit 20 and that I probably would have got lost beyond that.
We learned that Joe has many rider friends and always seems to bring someone new to our rides. In jest, I thought that Dave's V-Rod was going to be the bike that ran out of gas first, but NOoooooooooooooo! Not wanting to be out-done by Joe, I too, asked a co-worker to join us in our ride. I wasn't able to technically "out-do" Joe, but I did match him. Since Joe brought his friend Mike with the HD V-Rod, I searched high and low and found Dave with the HD Road King who also took the metric risk and joined us for the day. Hopefully, it won't be the last for either of them.
We had many "firsts" on this ride. Where to begin?
Our 2 airforce reps Blue Goose and Air4ce76 finally met for the first time. They've done separate events with the group but this was the first time they had a chance to meet.
Carl, aka Zig37, made this his first ride with the group and joined us for lunch at the Smokehouse before heading out to Maine.
Tim, aka TLski99, and his wife Linda met us at the Irving and rode out with us for lunch.
Oh yeah..another first. We had a rider who ran out of gas on one of the route's more challenging hill climbs in the notch. Elmer doubled up as our AAA rep and fetched us some gas. FYI: It wasn't a silver, black, red or an orange VTX.
Let's see: MojoJoe apparently doubles as a stunt rider. At about 25+ mph, my VTX baseball cap blew off my head. MojoJoe was behind me and without skipping a beat, he caught my flying ball cap, mid air, with his right foot and drove it up to me. Simply unbelievable, but it happened.
For the first time, the entire group went off roading on a gravel road. God knows that driving on well paved roads gets old after a while. The things we do to avoid traffic and traffic lights. You had to be there. Doug: I truly and sincerely have to say thanks for leading us around N Conway's modern roads! There is no one more superior to you in your knowledge of the local backroads. This undoubtedly will have Danbo crying that he missed this part of the ride.
The Sanchez crew was up and about. Senior: It was great to see you back on the bike. For those who weren't on the ride, ya have to see the great job that Mariano did with his patch and vest. I want one like it! Junior: You have to know that many people were saying very cool things about your orange paint. I've beed sworn to secrecy on those sources and I can only admit that you have broken me down. It looks good!
Tom VT once again made the long trek to join us on the ride. Someone explain to me why. Glad to see you again!
You'll see in the pics that Mike made the trip from Manchester solo. Somewhere along the route he found Beth wandering around. Being the kind of guy that he is, he picked her up, fed her and then took her for a ride. What a guy!
Dawj: Thanks for taking the time to come up to the Irving!
I learned, today, that Blue Goose has a strange relationship with ice cream. It is something beyond the group's infatuation. Briefly, Danbo likes having his pics taken with the ladies, Blue Goose likes to pose with ice cream. Kinky? Who knows? I report.........you decide. Sorry Jeff! It was too easy!
For those who may be wondering, I did actually make it to work merely 7 minutes late.
All in all, it was a good day even with the funny little issues. We always have reason to laugh even if it's at our own expense.
