One down, One to go!  (from the NHMRO web site)
February 10, 2010
We have received word from Concord that HB 1261/Noise was pulled from the consent calendar and was put to the
House floor for a vote. The vote was 267 to 28 in opposition of the bill.  The other bill HB 1162 has not yet been
voted upon and we can expect that to occur when the House is in session, next Wednesday.  If you haven't done
so... you know the drill by now -  contact
your rep's to be sure that they vote
NO  on 1162 when it goes to vote on the "floor".

Here's an email from Candy Alexander at the NHMRO. The noise bill has been soundly defeated but we'll have to sweat it out on the helmet law until next week.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010        NH legislative committee rejects motorcycle bills

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — A bill requiring New Hampshire motorcyclists to wear helmets has died in a legislative committee.

The Portsmouth Herald reported on its Web site Tuesday that the bill, and another requiring motorcycles made after 1982 to have noise "emission systems labels," were dismissed in the House Transportation Committee after the panel deemed them "too inexpedient to legislate."

The House held a hearing on the legislation last week.

Both measures were proposed by state Rep. Judith Day of North Hampton. She tells the newspaper she's undecided whether she will seek re-election, but will propose the bills again if she returns to the Legislature.

Day says she also supports legislation allowing communities to craft their own motorcycle noise ordinances.

(A message from the NHMRO)

Now that the hearings for both bills are
behind us,
NHMRO's would like to
remind you that there are a few things
left to do.

The Transportation Committee is
expected to consider the bills
disposition in executive session within
the couple of weeks and will either
render an "out to pass" or an
"inexpedient to legislate" (ITL) before
<--------- Dismissed in Committee as ITL
the bill goes to the full House for a vote.  <--------- Still goes to full house for vote

It is important that you now contact                <---------- Still need to contact your local Rep
your representatives (and not
necessarily the Transportation
Committee), to express you position on
these bills.

UPDATE

Transportation Committee Hearings were held at the State House, Hall of Representatives in Concord on January 28th 2010.

The schedule was as follows:

HB1162 Motorcycle Helmets is at 9:30am

HB1261 Motorcycle Noise Emission Controls is at 10:30am

The actual times ran longer and the hearings concluded around 1:00pm in the afternoon. After hearing rep. Judith Day from Rockingham County (sponsoring both bills), and other sponsors of the bills, testimony was given by the NHMRO, the AMA, several other motorcycle groups and also people in attendance. There had to be between 200 and 300 bikers in attendance at the hearings. Definitely a large group in opposition to both bills. Several members of the NH VTX Riders were in attendance as well. As more information becomes available, it will get posted here. Anyone wanting to see video of the hearings CLICK HERE.  The original links remain below and there is still time to contact your local rep to let them know you are in opposition to these bills.
